Lesson 11: Chance

You can make a choice, but you cannot choose everything that happens after it.

That is where chance enters Free Determinism.

You choose to leave five minutes early. Someone else chooses to leave five minutes late. A storm changes direction. A stranger happens to be standing in one particular place. Two completely separate chains of events suddenly intersect.

Neither person needed to plan the meeting for the meeting to change both of their lives.

Chance is where independent chains of cause and effect collide.

It can open possibilities you never knew existed. It can remove possibilities you thought were guaranteed. It can amplify a tiny decision into a life changing consequence.

This is why making the same choice does not guarantee the same result.

You influence what happens next.

You do not control everything that meets you there.

Conditions → Possibilities → Perception → Attention → Desire → Belief → Temperament → Emotion → Decision → Choice → Chance

And once chance meets choice, we arrive at the next mechanism:

Consequence.
