The continuous loop of existence

Understanding the foundational cycle of Free Determinism. Explore how your past shapes your present, and your present choices help shape your future.

You are always choosing from somewhere

You are never choosing from nowhere. You enter each moment carrying conditions shaped by your past. You navigate possibilities, make a choice, experience the consequences, learn from them, and carry that information into your next choice. The person making the next choice has been changed by what came before. This is the cycle of Free Determinism: conditions shape choices, and choices help create future conditions.

The cycle of Free Determinism

This page is designed for everyone: newcomers encountering Free Determinism for the first time, the general public, students, philosophers, academics, researchers, and anyone interested in understanding how conditions, choice, consequence, memory, and learning shape human life. Our goal is to make the cycle simple enough for anyone to understand while providing enough structure for deeper philosophical examination.

Choices and their ripple effects

We want you to recognize that your lives are shaped by both inherited conditions and the choices you make within them. See how every choice can create consequences, experiences, and memories that influence what becomes possible next. Look at your own life differently: understand the conditions that shaped you, recognize the choices available now, and realize that what you choose today can help shape who you become tomorrow.

An everyday example of the cycle

Imagine touching a hot stove. Before touching it, you have a set of conditions and possibilities. You choose to touch it. The consequence is pain. That consequence becomes an experience and a memory. The next time you see a hot stove, you are making a choice from a changed position because the previous experience is now part of you. Your past choice has changed your future choices. This simple cycle repeats throughout life: conditions lead to possibilities, possibilities lead to choice, choice creates consequences, consequences create experience and memory, and those become part of the conditions of the next choice.
